Recipient obligations
1.This scholarship is available for both full-time and part-time study where the part-time study is approved by La Trobe University. Please be aware that you may have visa conditions which don’t allow you to study part-time. Please refer to the Department of Home Affairs website or your visa grant notice for more information. Please also be aware there may be tax implications for scholarship recipients studying part-time. We encourage you to check whether the payments you are receiving are classified as taxable income. Please visit ATO’s Is My Scholarship Taxable? website for further information.
2.You are not able to defer an offer of a scholarship. If you decide not to enrol or discontinue your course after the scholarship is awarded, the scholarship will be withdrawn. If you intend to make changes to your study load, change your course or campus, or take a leave of absence you must first contact the Scholarships Office for advice regarding your scholarship.
3.You are required to maintain satisfactory academic progress each semester. If you do not maintain satisfactory academic progress, your scholarship may be at risk. We encourage you to access academic recovery supports if your academic progress is unsatisfactory.
4.La Trobe University will terminate your scholarship if:
- you cease to meet any of the eligibility criteria or ongoing requirements, including your change of visa status
- the full value of the scholarship has been paid for the maximum period allowed
- you do not resume study at the conclusion of a period of leave of absence or do not meet all the University’s and Government’s administrative requirements
- you are found to have committed serious academic misconduct or general misconduct.
5.It is your responsibility to contact the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and Centrelink for advice regarding the taxation and social security payment implications of the scholarship.
6.You must inform the Scholarships Office immediately if your visa changes.
7.If Government policy or your residency changes, and you become eligible for Government programs that assist students with deferring fees (e.g. FEE-HELP, HECS-HELP, SA-HELP), the scholarship will no longer cover the course fee portion of your scholarship, but you may continue to receive the living allowance if you already receive it.
