CSIRO Industry PhD - Investigating the Genetics of Resistance to AVG in Farmed Abalone
Background
Scholarship code - SRS-24015
This prestigious La Trobe University scholarship, in partnership with the CSIRO (Industry PhD program), will be awarded to an outstanding applicant who is interested in understanding the genetic mechanisms underpinning viral resistance in Australian abalone.
The Industry collaborative project will investigate the heritability and genomic architecture of resistance of farmed abalone to abalone viral ganglioneuritis (AVG). The expected outcome is to understand the heritability of AVG resistance in Australian abalone and the genetic parameters of this trait, as well as identifying any biomarkers that may be associated with resistance to this virus. This may help decision-making with regards to AVG genetic selection and contribute to a more sustainable abalone farming industry in Australia.
This scholarship is open to Australian citizens and permanent residents, and New Zealand citizens, and will open until filled.
