An entry program can boost your application so that you receive an offer for your preferred course. Both La Trobe and state-based tertiary admissions centres like VTAC and UAC provide options to gain special consideration or adjust and sometimes replace your ATAR.

These options include extra study during secondary school or alternatives to normal entry requirements, such as consideration for life or health circumstances, work experience, athletic ability or community service.

What are pathway courses?

Pathway courses help you access your preferred course by completing another qualification once you finish secondary school. For example, you could complete a Diploma or Associate Degree as a pathway to a Bachelor's, or start a related course and then transfer into your preferred course.

  • Found a pathway that suits you? Our course pages have complete details about all our courses, including entry requirements, subject prerequisites and English language requirements. They also include updates to course intakes and start dates that may impact course duration for some pathways.
  • Course duration in this tool is based on full-time study for one year or the equivalent of 120 credit points. Some factors, including studying part-time, could impact your course's duration.
  • ‘Transfer’ as a pathway method refers to an internal course transfer midway through your degree. If your application to transfer is unsuccessful, you can still complete your course and apply for a postgraduate degree in your preferred field.
  • If you’ve completed any other course, we may view it as further study and take it into consideration when reviewing your application for another degree – even if it’s not listed here as a specific pathway.
  • Packaged offer (guaranteed pathway): Admission into the Bachelor’s component of the packaged offer is conditional on passing all Diploma subjects. Admission into the postgraduate course is dependent on you meeting the minimum published selection and admission criteria for that course. See Packaged Offers for more details.
