Dean's welcome

Welcome to the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment.
Our School is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of our students, partners and communities by cultivating healthy food, healthy people and healthy ecosystems.
We are committed to excellence and innovation in education and research, and addressing some of the major global challenges of our time including food security, chronic and infectious diseases, and environmental change.
We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, designed to provide students with a flexible, contemporary, interdisciplinary and industry-engaged learning experience. Many of our subjects offer flexible delivery modes, allowing students to fit learning in with their lives. Most importantly, hands-on experiences, whether in the laboratory or out in the field, feature across all our courses. These experiences not only enhance the academic journey of our students, but also position them for future success in industry or further study. Our graduates are known for being job-ready, and we are proud of our long history of high graduate outcomes.
Our research efforts focus on advancing knowledge and developing solutions to global challenges. We are uniquely positioned to make impactful research contributions due to our scale, research breadth and diversity, world-class infrastructure, strong industry partnerships and regional connectedness.
We are committed to fostering a workplace that is safe, fair and equitable, where diversity is embraced, and excellence underpins everything we do. We promote gender equity and celebrate cultural differences. Our culture of shared practice encourages best practices, professional development, and recognition of achievements.
As we move through our varied workplaces – in our offices and laboratories, in the field, at other institutions or conferences, in Australia or internationally – we are ambassadors for La Trobe’s cultural qualities, knowing that we share a common goal for a better world.
We look forward to working together to achieve our shared goals and make a positive impact on our world.
