The La Trobe Animal Research and Teaching Facility (LARTF) provides housing, husbandry, technical resources and expertise supporting the use of a diverse range of animals involved in research and teaching activities.
Capabilities
LARTF offers a range of facilities and services which include:
- Agistment, husbandry and colony management for rats, mice and zebrafish, including genetically modified strains
- Specialised care and housing for avian, reptile and native animals
- Behavioural neuroscience suites with state-of-the-art behaviour testing equipment
- Fully equipped surgical facilities with isoflurane anaesthesia and instrument autoclave
- PC1 and PC2 certified Specified Pathogen Free and conventional facilities
Expertise
Skilled technical support provided by experienced veterinarians and animal technicians.
Equipment
Specialised equipment including a small animal irradiator, in vivo optical and ultrasound imaging systems and fluorescence microscope.
Behaviour suites
Behavioural neuroscience suites for rats and mice with state-of-the-art behaviour testing equipment
Training
Training and competency assessment programs in animal handling and procedures.
Access
Services are available to La Trobe staff and students as well as external organisations and industry.
