La Trobe excels in QS subject rankings

La Trobe University has once again cemented its status as a global leader, in the 2021 QS World University subject rankings.

Sports-related subjects at La Trobe placed 37th in the world, up one position from last year, while both Archaeology and Nursing were again named in the world’s top 100.

La Trobe Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar AO welcomed this recognition of the University’s significant contribution to research and teaching.

“Melbourne is Australia’s sporting capital and La Trobe is home to some of the country’s leading sports and exercise researchers who are dedicated to understanding and sharing knowledge that enhances the lives of everyone, from high-performing athletes to community sports enthusiasts,” Professor Dewar said.

“A major asset for our sporting community is our brand new $150 million La Trobe Sports Park – a key component of our ambitious University City of the Future plan.  This purpose-built facility for teaching, research, community participation and elite sport locates playing courts and fields alongside laboratories for biomechanics, sports analytics, exercise physiology and strength and conditioning.”

Professor Dewar congratulated academics whose subjects had placed high in this year’s rankings.

“It’s pleasing to see subjects perform so well from across all disciplines – from Archaeology and Nursing to Psychology and Education,” Professor Dewar said.

“This achievement is testament to our academic talent, reflecting the quality and breadth of research which makes a real difference to the lives of people and the environment across Australia and the globe.”

This year, QS analysed more than 13.9 million academic papers and ranked 1453 institutions across 51 subjects in 5 subject areas.
