Dr Miller is visiting Australia from Japan through a La Trobe International Visiting Fellowship, generously funded by the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) Office. Her visit brings together researchers and partners across La Trobe to strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange in gender-based violence prevention, sexual and reproductive health, and health equity.
Dr Miller is Deputy Director of the Integrated Center for Women’s Health at the National Centre for Child Health and Development in Tokyo, Japan, and Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh. She is internationally recognised for her work catalysing the field of reproductive coercion and is an expert in intimate partner and sexual violence prevention, as well as adolescent health equity in clinical and community settings.
Her fellowship visit is being co-hosted by the Judith Lumley Centre in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Reducing Gender-based Violence Research Group (ReGEN) and La Trobe Asia/Centre for Global Security in the School of Humanities.
For La Trobe Rural Health School and ReGEN at the Violet Vines Centre for Rural Health Research, Dr Miller’s visit will provide an opportunity to connect international expertise with Australian and Asia-Pacific research and practice, while building relationships across disciplines and sectors.

Gender-Based Violence: A Global Security Issue

Dr Miller will also feature in a public panel exploring gender-based violence as a global security issue. The event is presented by the La Trobe Centre for Global Security in partnership with ReGEN and brings together leading researchers and experts to consider gender-based violence through health, security, policy and international perspectives.
