Upskilling Mauritian nurses

The School of Nursing and Midwifery is providing Mauritian nurses with the opportunity to upskill and progress their careers

The School of Nursing and Midwifery is partnering with Polytechnics Mauritius Ltd to deliver our Bachelor of Nursing (Post-Registration) program in Mauritius.

The partnership aims to transform the lives of Mauritian nurses by providing opportunities to upskill and progress their careers.

Around 120 students have completed the program, enabling registered nurses with diploma qualifications to upgrade to a bachelor degree.

Yasmeen Maudarbocus recently completed the degree. “Everything was well organised, particularly throughout online classes,” she says.

“It was completely new to me, having resumed my studies after 20 years. I am grateful for the support and encouragement from the lecturers, and their responsiveness.”

“Throughout this partnership, we have faced and overcome a number of hurdles,” says Polytechnics Mauritius Ltd. Lecturer, Suren Reesaul, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic which necessitated the online delivery of classes. “It has provided me with opportunities to mature and succeed as an educator and coordinator.”

“We are committed to supporting international education through mutually beneficial global partnerships that prepare students to become global citizens,” adds Dr Gulzar Malik, Associate Dean (International Partnerships) and Academic Program Director (Mauritius course).

“We are proud to witness our alumni performing advanced practice roles and positively influencing healthcare delivery in Mauritius.”
