COVID-19 Update - June 2, 2020: Sport moves closer to a return at La Trobe University

With the recent easing of restrictions in Victoria, La Trobe Sport would like to provide an update on what this means for sport and recreation at La Trobe University.

The positive news is that outdoor training for many of our affiliated clubs (groups of less than 10) and some smaller-scale recreation club trips recommenced last week, while our outdoor, face-to-face group fitness training sessions at the Sports Park/Sports Centre and personal training services are also in full swing.

With the restrictions easing further as of this week enabling up to 20 people to participate in outdoor community sport training and health and fitness sessions, we have also expanded our approved outdoor activity to include external user groups.

The University is continuing to closely monitor the situation and are planning the phased return of activities through a careful COVID-Safe process which complies with government health requirements. In reflection of this, La Trobe Sport is working towards a reopening for the La Trobe Sports Stadium and the La Trobe Sports Centre (including the gym, pool and specialty studios) on Monday June 22.

The process of reopening both our indoor and outdoor spaces is complex. La Trobe Sport is working hard internally to ensure all of our facilities comply with the physical distancing and hygiene requirements as stipulated by national and state authorities.

Additionally, we also need to comply with the specific requirements for activities as mandated by the relevant sporting associations and industry bodies (Fitness Australia, Life Saving Victoria and Sport & Recreation Victoria). This pertains to how activity is conducted and the ongoing monitoring of participants. All processes we implement are subject to final approval from the University.

La Trobe Sport wishes to thank our members and customers for your patience as our staff continue to liaise with the relevant authorities, governing bodies and club representatives to work through this constantly evolving landscape.

Stay tuned to the latest updates regarding the reopening of our programs and facilities via the La Trobe Sport website and our Facebook and Instagram channels.
