Fully electric Shepparton Campus

Shepparton leads the way as La Trobe's first fully electric campus. Following a major redevelopment, the campus now runs entirely on renewable electricity.

Key upgrades

  • Refurbished, sustainable facilities and infrastructure
  • Electric vehicle charging stations for staff, students and the community
  • Centralised electric heating and cooling systems
  • Solar panels and electric barbeques for sustainable events.

La Trobe Apartments North and South

Completed in 2020, our state-of-the-art student accommodation is a fully electric, 5-star Green Star-rated building. It features 4,100 cubic metres of Cross Laminated Timber for the floors, walls, and stairs, along with rooftop solar panels, LED lighting, water-efficient fixtures and 100% outdoor air ventilation.

La Trobe Sports Stadium

The La Trobe Sports Stadium was awarded Australia’s first 6 Star Green Star Design and As Built v1.2 certified rating for a sports building  by the Green Building Council Australia, recognising world leadership in sustainable building practices. The 100% electric stadium reflects our commitment to electrifying campus infrastructure and buildings.

Environmental highlights of the Stadium

  • 1,104 rooftop solar panels generate 519kW – enough to power the entire stadium and supply surplus energy to the rest of the campus.
  • Structural design that reduces embodied carbon (the greenhouse gas emissions generated upfront to construct the building) with a 15% reduction demonstrated due to the structural efficiency of the court design.
  • Accredited sustainable products including furniture, flooring and ceiling panels.
  • Water efficient fixtures and controls with rainwater capture and reuse.
  • Native landscaping, natural ventilation, water-sensitive urban design, an integrated waste management plan, green groundskeeping operations and a white roof which reflects the sun.

LSU Bendigo Campus

In early 2024, we replaced aging gas infrastructure with energy-efficient heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) solutions in the LSU building. This upgrade is part of our electrification journey at the Bendigo Campus, delivering energy savings.

HHS1 Bendigo Campus

In 2022, the HHS1 building at our Bendigo Campus became the first to transition from gas to electric as part of our Net Zero program. Gas boilers and hot water services were replaced with an electric heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) systems. This upgrade enhances thermal comfort for students and staff while supporting our Net Zero goals.

Chiller Upgrade Program

As part of La Trobe’s electrification program, a high-efficiency electric chiller was installed in ED1, replacing inefficient gas infrastructure.
