Space Biology
The LIMS Space Biology program ustilises the unique challenges of space as a test bed for robust and universally deployable health and technological solutions. By studying long-term living in space, real-time wellness monitoring, and the development of bespoke biomedical devices, the program aims to design equitable health solutions that are applicable not only for astronauts but also for challenging terrestrial environments.
The Space Biology program harnsesses expertise from the La Trobe University node of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space, providing us access to the ultimate environment to test out technologies for their application in severe heat, isolation, drought, and other extreme environmental conditions.
The program strives not only to maintain health in space, but also to use the unique conditions of space to advance our understanding of biology, driving forward the frontiers of human knowledge and capability.
