Join the Library

Become a La Trobe University (LTU) Library member to use our facilities and borrow items from our collections.

Current LTU students/staff are automatically Library members, as are La Trobe College Australia students and academic staff. Other patrons (including the general public) can request to join using the methods outlined below.

Library memberships

All La Trobe College Australia students and academic staff will receive an email from the Library with membership details. Use your La Trobe College ID card as your Library card when borrowing.

If you're a student or staff member of an institution listed on CAVAL's list of participating libraries, you can become a member of LTU Library via CAVAL.

  • Take your current student/staff card (or photo ID) and proof of your enrolment/employment at the institution to the service desk or Help Zone of an LTU campus library during face-to-face opening hours and ask for a CAVAL card.

  • We'll issue you a CAVAL card with an affixed LTU Library barcode.

  • Use your CAVAL card to borrow items using the self-checkout machines or at the service desk.

If you're a student or staff member of an institution listed on ULANZ's list of participating universities, you can become a member of LTU Library via ULANZ.

  • Take your current student/staff card (or photo ID) and proof of your enrolment/employment at the institution to the service desk or Help Zone of an LTU campus library during face-to-face opening hours and ask for a ULANZ card.

  • We'll issue you a Library card that has an LTU Library barcode.

  • Use your Library card to borrow items using the self-checkout machines or at the service desk.

The process of joining the Library is slightly different depending which campus you use. Refer to the relevant information below for your local campus.

  • Print and complete the VCE Mildura membership form.

  • For students, the form must be signed by your parents and then verified by your school.

    For teachers, the form must be verified by your school.

  • Take the completed form and your current school ID card to the Circulation desk at the SuniTAFE library during face-to-face opening hours.

  • We'll affix an LTU Library barcode to your ID card, which you can then use to borrow items from the Library.

Note: VCE/HSC Library membership expires on 30 November each year.

Anyone aged 18 or over can become a community borrower at our Melbourne (Bundoora), Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga and Shepparton campuses libraries. Mildura campus library is operated by SuniTAFE and community membership can be arranged through SuniTAFE for a fee.

Note: While we try our best to assist all users, some requests may not be met as they are beyond what we can provide.

  • Take a form of current photo ID to the service desk or Help Zone of an LTU campus library during face-to-face opening hours and complete the physical membership form.

  • We'll issue you with a Library membership card, which you can then use to borrow items from the Library.
