Borrow at other academic libraries

If you are a La Trobe University (LTU) student or staff member, you can borrow directly from other academic libraries through CAVAL or ULANZ.

The CAVAL Reciprocal Borrowing Program allows you to borrow directly from other participating Victorian university and TAFE libraries.

The ULANZ Borrowing Scheme is a similar program, which allows you to borrow in person from other participating university libraries in Australia and New Zealand.

If you are not physically visiting another academic library, consider requesting items from their collection through the LTU Library. Our Interlibrary Loans and Document Delivery Service (ILDDS) team will liaise with the other library and, if able, have the items delivered to one of our campus libraries ready for you to pick up.

How to borrow at other libraries

  • Take your LTU student/staff card (or photo ID and proof of current enrolment/employment at LTU) to the service desk at the other academic library and request a CAVAL or ULANZ membership.
Note: Some libraries may charge a fee for registration. They will provide you with a CAVAL/ULANZ card or, if you have one from another library, affix a barcode to your existing card. The membership will be valid for the current year only (usually ending in February).

  • To borrow items, take both your CAVAL/ULANZ card and your LTU student/staff card (or proof of ID) to that library's service desk.
Note: Borrowing conditions will vary depending on the rules of the library you're visiting. Please check the details on their website or ask at the service desk for more information.

  • Items must be returned to the library where you borrowed them by their due date.
