Making advancements in infectious diseases is a world-wide challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted our global vulnerability, and it also demonstrated that new innovations and cures are within our reach. La Trobe University’s upcoming Industry Innovation Series event, 'Frontiers in Infectious Diseases Innovation', will explore this critical topic and bring together leading voices from Moderna, CARB-X, and spin-out company Deftbiotech.

Key discussion points include accelerating mRNA medicines, the development of novel products to combat threats, and Deftbiotech’s development of Pezadeftide, a novel antifungal peptide derived from the plant defensin family. Together, we have a collective dedication – across academia and industry - to transform science into practical solutions that safeguard public health and enhance biosecurity.
Hosted by Professor Ashley Franks, Applied and Environmental Microbiology, La Trobe University, the event format includes an hour of engaging lecture-style presentations, followed by an interactive audience Q&A with the speakers, and an informal networking session.
