Department of Rural Clinical Sciences partnerships

The Department of Rural Clinical Sciences partners with a range of health and community organisations across regional and rural Victoria, and with the communities surrounding each of La Trobe’s campuses in Bendigo, Shepparton, Mildura and Albury-Wodonga.

A key focus of our partnerships is teaching the next generation of professionals for regional and rural Australia.

We are proud of the positive difference our research makes, every day, to Australian communities. With the support of our partners, La Trobe offers a range of industry PhD opportunities. Our staff also contribute to community and health service boards, and other advisory groups.

Our partnerships ensure that we continue to make a vital contribution to rural health and science workforce development in Victoria and Australia.

Our key partnerships include:

Albury Wodonga Health offers outstanding training opportunities and high-calibre dental placements.

Bendigo Health is the largest local health provider in the City of Greater Bendigo and is the largest regional hospital in Victoria. As an expanding regional health service, Bendigo Health is a significant education and training provider of clinical placements across the disciplines taught at the La Trobe Rural Health School. The La Trobe Rural Health School operates a clinical teaching building on the Bendigo Health site, which is soon to be home of the new Clinical School of Dentistry and Oral Health.

Bendigo Health partners on a range of clinical research projects and conjoint academic appointments, providing ongoing clinical experience for our teachers.

Castlemaine Health - Dhelkaya Health is a sought-after placement for our Pharmacy students. Collaborative research projects have also been run on-site.

Based in Shepparton, Goulburn Valley Health is a well-established partner, providing high-quality placements for Pharmacy students.  Collaborative research projects are ongoing.

Grampians Health Ballarat is the primary public healthcare provider for the Grampians region of Victoria, serving a catchment area of over 250,000 people. As a leading institution in teaching, training, and research, they offer comprehensive care across a wide range of healthcare settings.

Many of our Dentistry and Oral Health students complete their clinical placements at Grampians Health, where they continue to receive top-tier clinical training and hands-on experience.

The partnership with Singapore’s PSB Academy is La Trobe University’s largest offshore program, with around 1000 students enrolled in the Science and Biomedical Science degree programs.

PSB graduates study the same subjects taught across regional Victorian campuses and go on to pursue exciting careers in major hospitals, diagnostic labs, research centres, and as postgraduates.

Western Health is one of the largest healthcare providers in Victoria, serving a diverse and rapidly growing community of nearly one million people in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Our Dentistry and Oral Health students gain valuable hands-on experience at Western Health's Melton clinic. These students treat a range of patients, from children to adults, and provide emergency care for those experiencing toothache or oral trauma.
