Professional Background/experience
Dr. Ranjana Srivastava OAM is a practicing oncologist in the Victorian public hospital system, two-time Fulbright scholar and award-winning writer of several books and essays. She received a Medal of the Order of Australia for her contribution to the field of doctor-patient communication and is the winner of the Human Rights Commission Literature Prize.
A self-taught writer, she publishes a widely-read fortnightly column in The Guardian newspaper on the art of medicine and is a two-time finalist for the Walkley Award for Excellence in Journalism.
Fluent in English and Hindi, Ranjana is the beneficiary of a global education from India, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. Apart from her medical qualifications from Monash University and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, she has a fellowship in clinical medical ethics from the University of Chicago and a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where she also received the John F Kennedy Merit Award.
Ranjana is a keen believer in the power of education to shape our lives and supports educational initiatives around the world.
She is the mother of three children, including one at university.
