Funded Comprehensive Health Assessment of the Older Person workshops – Victoria (2025-2028)

About the workshops
Managed by the Victorian Department of Health through the Commonwealth Government’s Strengthening Medicare – Supporting Older Australians initiative, the Australian Centre for Evidence Based Aged Care (ACEBAC) at La Trobe University will be holding 140 FREE workshops for all nurses (RNs and ENs) who work in Victorian residential aged care homes. Workshops are scheduled over a three-year period throughout 2025 – 2028.
As part of this initiative, your facility may be eligible for a small equipment grant. Information on how to apply for the grant will be made available from July 2025 onwards.
The workshops involve three days of interactive, hands-on skills development, aided by simulation manikins.
The Comprehensive Health Assessment of the Older Person (CHAOP) workshops involve three days of interactive, hands-on skills development, aided by simulation manikins. The workshops provide nurses with content and skills development in the areas of:
- clinical reasoning and general assessment skills
- communication of assessment – professional issues
- musculoskeletal assessment
- nutrition, metabolism and elimination assessment
- cardiovascular assessment
- respiratory assessment
- cognitive and perceptual assessment
- psychosocial assessment
Attend the workshop and:

- add to your hours of continuing professional education.

Schedule
This series of 140 workshops will be held in rural, regional and Melbourne metropolitan areas during 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 for all Victorian nurses. Please download the flyer below for the complete schedule.
Registration
All registrations need to be submitted online. Each workshop has its own specific registration link that you can find in the schedule provided in the flyer. You must obtain your manager’s approval before registering so you can arrange leave etc.
Registrations will close 1 week prior to the workshop start date.
Once registered, you will receive an email confirmation. ACEBAC will contact you approximately 2 weeks prior to the workshop with further details (e.g. exact venue etc).
If at any point you can no longer attend, please email Comprehensive Health Assessment workshops as soon as possible so we can offer your place to another participant.
