Electronic engineering
Why study Electronic engineering or Microelectronics?
The electronic engineering program focuses on electronic circuits and systems in daily use, from microwave ovens to photonic communication devices and biomedical equipment. Through your studies you will develop an appreciation of the role of the engineering technologist in the community and an awareness of the social and environmental effects of decisions.
You will have the opportunity to specialise in biomedical engineering, communication engineering, electronic systems engineering (microelectronics, control systems and signal processing), optical engineering or sustainability in energy production.
You can also combine your studies with a Master's qualification in biomedical engineering, microelectronic engineering or telecommunications engineering that you can complete in five or five and a half years. We also offer a program in electronic technology.
The Bachelor of Mechatronics and Robotics will be available from 2014 at the Melbourne campus, subject to course approval.
Electronic Engineering
Career opportunities
Career options depend on your specialisation and may include satellite and mobile telecommunications, microelectronic circuit design, control systems, robotics or biomedical engineering.
Graduates with a Master’s qualification in biomedical engineering may work in high-technology health services including patient monitoring systems, computerised medical imaging and monitoring, artificial organs, neural prostheses and life-support systems, and hospital safety and equipment management.
Graduates of the electronic technology program may find work in the electronics industry in assembling circuitry, repairing faults or installation, and calibrating and testing electronic instrumentation and equipment.
