Australia Day 2024 Honours List appointees

La Trobe University alumni, staff, former staff and community members have been recognised for their commitment to excellence and contribution to their communities in this year’s 2024 Australia Day Honours List.

Professor Susan Dodds, interim Vice-Chancellor congratulated all of the recipients, including La Trobe alumni, former staff and members of the local communities we serve.

“These prestigious awards are recognition of the significant national and global contribution of the La Trobe community. I congratulate everyone who has received an Australia Day Honour,” Professor Dodds said.

For distinguished service to the nursing and midwifery professions through leadership and advocacy roles.

Francis Acquah AM (Alumni)
For significant service to mental health care, and to the community.

Varvara Athanasiou-Ioannou AM (Alumni)
For significant service to the community, particularly through inclusion and diversity initiatives, in a range of roles.

Dr Jennifer Gowan AM (former staff)
For significant service to medicine as a pharmacist, to professional societies, and to community health.

Christine Kotur AM (Alumni)
For significant service to education, and to the community of Victoria.

The Hon Sharman Stone AM MP (Alumni)
For significant service to the people and Parliament of Australia, and to the community through executive positions.

For service to people with a disability.

For service to youth through Girl Guides.

For service to sports administration.

Emergency Services Medal

Susan Sheldrick ESM (Alumni)
The Emergency Services Medal recognises distinguished service as a member of an Australian emergency service. It also recognises people who are involved in emergency management, training or education.

Conspicuous Service Medal

Dr Lindsay Carey CSM (Alumni, Staff Member)
For devotion to duty in Moral Injury research and the development of resources and training to support Australian Defence Force personnel.
