La Trobe climbs in QS Global Rankings

La Trobe University has been named as one of the world’s leading universities, according to the 2022 QS World University Rankings.

La Trobe has risen 36 places to claim its new spot at 362nd of the top 1300 universities from around the world.

Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar AO said the ranking was a ringing endorsement for the University and its deep engagement with communities and partners.

“This result recognises our exceptional teaching and learning, our high impact research, and our longstanding reputation as an employer of choice. We continue to demonstrate our reputation as a leading global university,” Professor Dewar said.

“A key element of our impressive rise in these latest global rankings relates to an increase in the frequency with which our researchers are cited by fellow academics across the world.”

Professor Dewar said La Trobe was committed to making a difference to its students, its staff and its many communities, including those around its campuses across regional Victoria.

“The research we conduct and the partnerships we forge across Victoria and at a national and international level, focus on our areas of strength which deliver impact.

“Sustainable food and agriculture; healthy living; understanding and preventing disease; environmental sustainability, and social change are just some of our key areas of focus, for which we are globally recognised,” Professor Dewar said.

This year, QS lists the world’s top 1300 universities from 97 countries. A total of 6415 institutions were eligible for analysis, with 1705 assessed.  The results account for the distribution and performance of 14.7 million academic papers published between 2015 and 2019, and the 96 million citations received by those papers; they also account for the expert opinions of over 130,000 academic faculty and over 75,000 employers.

QS considers each university’s academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty/student ratio, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
