La Trobe research is world class

La Trobe has performed strongly in key areas of focus in a leading world ranking of University research subjects.

Agricultural Science has increased to a position in the top 150 in the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, and is now ranked second in Victoria for Agriculture Sciences, Veterinary Sciences and Hospitality & Tourism.

La Trobe Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Industry Engagement, Professor Susan Dodds said the rankings reflected the University’s focus on delivering real-world benefits through research across a range of subject areas.

“We are one of Australia’s most forward-thinking universities and with an innovative research program focused on solving problems,” Professor Dodds said.

“Our agricultural sciences expertise was also recognised recently with the launch of the La Trobe-led Australian Research Council (ARC) Industry Transformation Research Hub for Medicinal Agriculture which will optimise production of medicinal plants, boost employment opportunities in the industry and ultimately improve health outcomes for patients.

“The hub is but one example of our close connections with industry and community ensuring that our high calibre research is making a difference, improving lives and enriching economies,” Professor Dodds said.

Top 100 – Hospitality & Tourism Management, Nursing

Top 150 – Agricultural Sciences

Top 200 – Geography, Veterinary Science

Top 300 – Law, Education, Psychology, Ecology, Clinical Medicine, Public Health, Biological Sciences

Top 400 – Human Biological Sciences, Computer Science & Engineering, Biotechnology
