Welcome Professor Anna Stokke

Mathematician and University of Winnipeg Professor, Anna Stokke, is visiting La Trobe University across Victoria and Sydney this week.

A warm welcome to mathematician and University of Winnipeg Professor, Anna Stokke, who is currently visiting La Trobe University.

Professor Stokke and Associate Professor Chrissy Monteleone (pictured) are Co-Directors of La Trobe’s Science of Mathematics Education (SOME) Lab.

The SOME Lab is Australia’s first dedicated hub for evidence-informed mathematics education and one of the first initiatives internationally connecting world-class research, professional learning and implementation at this scale.

We’re proud to be bringing together leading researchers, educators, schools and system partners to help bridge the gap between research and practice. Together, we’re translating decades of research into how students most effectively learn mathematics into practical classroom approaches.

This visit is an exciting opportunity to continue building momentum around La Trobe’s vision for mathematics education reform, strengthening partnerships with educators, schools, systems and policymakers.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be in Australia working in person with Chrissy Monteleone and Joanna Barbousas on the Science of Mathematics Education Lab,” says Professor Stokke.

“The first of its kind in the world, La Trobe’s SOME Lab is leading the way in translating evidence-based approaches for teaching mathematics to improve student outcomes and I’m honoured to be a part of it.”
