This month we celebrated the inaugural School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences Student Engagement and Employability Celebration, bringing together students, staff, alumni and industry representatives to recognise student achievement beyond the classroom.
The event was organised by student leaders Akshad Shelar, Mary George, Thisath Senevirathne and Adam Mardiryan, supported by the School’s Director of Student Engagement and Employability, Associate Professor Leanne Ngo, and a dedicated team of volunteers.
Highlights included an AI and employability panel featuring La Trobe's Professors of Practice and AI and industry professionals.
In another session, students were given the opportunity to shadow La Trobe University’s Chief Information Officer, Shainal Kavar, to learn more about technology leadership, professional roles and career pathways.
Professor Wenny Rahayu said the celebration highlighted the impact students are making while they are still studying.
“We are very proud of our students and their ability to combine strong technical foundations with leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and industry-ready capabilities.”
The event also included the presentation of the inaugural School Student Engagement and Employability Awards, which recognised outstanding contributions in leadership, student engagement, community contribution, professional impact, and entrepreneurship and innovation.
