Hands-on learning and a supportive environment helped Bachelor of Media and Communication (Journalism) graduate Hollie Mitchell build the skills and confidence to launch her career.
“I was lucky to have fantastic lecturers at La Trobe who genuinely wanted to see me succeed and helped me improve both professionally and personally,” she says.
During her degree, Hollie gained valuable industry experience through two internships with the Herald Sun and La Trobe’s Employability team.
“They provided an invaluable opportunity to broaden my professional networks and understand how my degree could apply in a working environment,” she says.
She also developed a professional portfolio of industry-standard journalism pieces, which she used to demonstrate her capabilities to employers.
Since graduating, Hollie has begun the National Graduate Program with Services Australia, where she will undertake two rotations across the agency.
“My time at La Trobe was invaluable in preparing me to start working professionally,” she says. “My internships, in particular, were the bridge between applying theoretical knowledge from the classroom and putting those skills into practice in the workforce.
“I’m excited to grow into my role and see where it takes me.”
