A world-renowned nurse researcher and Associate Dean, Research and Industry Engagement in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Professor Bloomer’s work explores how individuals and communities experience serious illness, critical care, dying and death in diverse healthcare contexts.
“What I value most about the School of Nursing and Midwifery at La Trobe University is its strong commitment to research excellence that is underpinned by a focus on health equity and community need,” she says.
Professor Bloomer is recognised for her expertise in qualitative research methodologies and for research that amplifies the voices and lived experiences of patients, families and clinicians, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
“I have been particularly inspired by the School’s emphasis on mentorship and capacity building, creating opportunities for emerging researchers and clinicians to develop confidence, leadership and meaningful research careers.”
Professor Bloomer says the School’s strong partnerships with health service organisations also ensure that research remains collaborative and grounded in real-world contexts.
“This means we can make a tangible difference to nursing practice, policy and ultimately, patient outcomes.”
