La Trobe Business School’s Bachelor of Accounting has received an Honorable Mention in the 2026 UN Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Education Awards.
This recognition highlights the School’s commitment to embedding sustainability throughout the Bachelor of Accounting curriculum, rather than confining it to a single subject or elective.
Dr Kate Mai, Course Coordinator, says the curriculum was redesigned to reflect the changing role of accountants.
“At its core, sustainability is not a topic to teach or a topic to learn. It is a way of thinking and doing. Developing that mindset requires a journey across an entire degree, not something that can be achieved through a single subject or project.”
Professor Colin Higgins, Dean of La Trobe Business School, said receiving the Honorable Mention was a proud moment for the School.
“The Bachelor of Accounting curriculum shows how deeply sustainability can be embedded into a professional degree while maintaining the rigour and relevance expected by the accounting profession.”
“This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects the way sustainability is becoming part of the core business curriculum in response to clear signals from the profession.”
The Bachelor of Accounting team includes Dr Kate Mai, Dr Esin Ozdil, Associate Professor Neale O'Connor, Associate Professor Muhammad Ali Jahangir, Dr Kate Ashman and Dr Balachandran Muniandy (John Bala).
The PRME Education Awards celebrate excellence in the core mission of business, management and leadership education. The awards recognise how educators, researchers, and institutions are strengthening pedagogy, curriculum, research, and academic environments to advance responsible management education and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
