Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Arts student, Elena Simopoulos, is passionate about justice and culture.

“I’m drawn to the way law shapes society and creates meaningful change,” she says. “And being able to combine law and arts has allowed me to engage in different ways of thinking, creating a balanced and fulfilling academic experience.”

As part of her Arts degree, Elena is majoring in Greek Studies, a language that holds deep personal meaning.

“Growing up in a Greek family and speaking with my Yiayia and Pappou really shaped my connection to the language and culture,” she says. “Doing Greek Studies has strengthened my reading, writing and speaking abilities, which has been an incredibly rewarding experience.”

A highlight of Elena’s studies has been an industry placement at St John’s College, where she was able to apply her Greek language skills in a professional setting.

“During my placement, I learned the importance of continuous language exposure from a young age through to high school,” she says.

“Overall, the experience allowed me to gain valuable professional insight into community-based education while developing my ability to contribute meaningfully to Greek language teaching. It boosted my confidence and reinforced the practical value of my studies.”
