2026 La Trobe Rural Health School conference

The 9th La Trobe Rural Health School conference was held last week at the Albury–Wodonga campus.

Over three days, we welcomed more than 160 delegates representing a diverse cross-section of universities, health services, government agencies, research institutes and community organisations, highlighting the collaborative nature of rural health research and practice.

A highlight was the keynote presentation by Sharon Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of Beechworth Health Service, who shared insights from her experience working across both regional and metropolitan health services.

In addition to the main conference day, we hosted a Three-Minute Thesis Competition and Graduate Research Symposium. Participants included research students, clinicians, academics, health service executives, policymakers and consumer advocates.

The breadth of participation reflected the conference's commitment to fostering collaboration across research, education, healthcare and community sectors to improve health outcomes for rural and regional Australians.

Professor Jane Mills, Pro Vice-Chancellor Health Innovation (Regional) and Dean of La Trobe Rural Health School said, “The strength of this conference lies in the diversity of perspectives and the willingness to collaborate across disciplines and organisations.”

“The ideas, partnerships and conversations that have emerged over the past three days will help shape the future of rural health, and I thank everyone who contributed to making this such a successful event."
