Zachary won a scholarship to attend the Duke-Leiden Summer Institute, a one-month residential program in the Netherlands for students of international and comparative law.
“Studying at The Hague provided the unique opportunity to engage directly with lawyers, legal officers and judges from the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice, while deepening my understanding of foreign relations law, human rights litigation and international dispute resolution,” he says.
Zachary’s experience at the Duke-Leiden Institute also led to an invitation to be a delegate to the United Nations Global Youth Summit in Geneva.
“I will join emerging leaders from around the world to discuss innovative approaches to global governance, peace building and the future of international cooperation,” he says.
“These opportunities have expanded my legal education well beyond the classroom, exposing me to the practical dimensions of global justice and diplomacy.”
Zachary hopes to bring this global perspective to a future career focused on advocacy and reform.
“I am particularly passionate about trauma-informed legal practice, accountability for human rights violations, and ensuring that legal systems respond compassionately and effectively to those most impacted by injustice.”
“Whether through strategic litigation, public prosecution, or international advocacy, I hope to use the law as a mechanism for meaningful and lasting change."
“Ultimately, I want to be part of a generation of legal professionals who see the law not simply as a technical tool, but as a platform for structural reform, dignity and global cooperation.”
