2025 has been a challenging year for international development. The abrupt dismantling of USAID and cuts to aid budgets in the US, the UK and parts of Europe have dramatically reduced funding and called into question the future role of aid.
The CHSSC and La Trobe Asia co-hosted a panel discussion on 14 August which explored the implications of these cuts for development actors in the Asia Pacific region.
We extend our thanks to our panelists Munkhtuya Altangerel (Resident Representative UNDP Pacific), Matthew Maury (CEO ACFID), Jope Tarai (Adjunct Research Fellow CHSSC), Lisa Denney (Director CHSSC) and host Ambika Vishwanath (La Trobe Asia) for an excellent assessment of the current dilemmas facing multilateral organisations and NGOs and the people and communities of the Asia Pacific that they support.
A recording of the event is available on La Trobe’s Asia Rising podcast.
