Law students to go to Model UN Conference

Law students Hiba and Lyba will represent La Trobe at the National Model United Nations conference,  the world’s largest and most prestigious university-level Model UN.

La Trobe Law School students Hiba Sajid Hashmi and Lyba Khan will represent La Trobe at the National Model United Nations conference in Washington, DC in November this year.

The conference is the world’s largest, most prestigious and longest-running university-level Model UN, bringing together students from across the globe to simulate real-world diplomacy and decision-making.

Hiba said the team is proud to represent La Trobe on the international stage.

“As we prepare, my team and I have been deepening our understanding of international relations and exploring our assigned country’s role in key global challenges,” she said. “This journey is sharpening our skills as future leaders and reflects La Trobe’s commitment to global engagement.”

Model United Nations allows delegates to apply theoretical knowledge of international relations and of the United Nations system in a practical, hands-on setting.

Over the coming months, the La Trobe Law School team will work on skills such as leadership, negotiation, collaboration, public speaking, researching and technical writing.

For Lyba, the experience has been both academic and personal.

“As we have been learning the policies and positions of a foreign country, the experience has evolved into something far deeper: a personal and collective one of growth, passion, and awareness. This experience has equipped us to carry all the lessons forward into our future endeavours.”
