Strengthening Connections

The Strengthening Connections program was a three-level, evidence-based family therapy service offered in two women's prisons in Victoria: the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre and Tarrengower. The program, running from October 2020 to June 2024, offered family centred education and therapeutic services for women in prison and their families.

Program aims

  • Promote healing and consolidation of close relationships, nurturing safe and secure environments for women to return to on release from prison.
  • Provide trauma informed and culturally safe care to all women and their family connections
  • Increase successful re-integration from prison back to the family unit.
  • Reduce risk of recidivism for women in Victoria.
