After a 25-year career as a professional table tennis player, Ha Bui wanted to give back to the sport that had given her so much.
“I have been playing table tennis since I was a little girl, starting as a young athlete and working my way up to become coach of the Ho Chi Minh city team. Sport has given me a lot during this time, including many national achievements as a player and a coach, physical and mental strengths, and a never-give-up attitude.”
“I wanted to give back to the sporting community, so I chose to do La Trobe's Master of Management (Sport Management). I chose this course to enhance my sports leadership skills so that I could better support and develop young athletes.”
“Australia's dynamic sports industry presented an ideal environment for my studies, and I wanted to learn from the best at La Trobe University. The University's reputation, scholarship offerings, and sports precincts made it the obvious choice for advancing my career in sport management” she says.
During her degree, Ha undertook a three-month placement at Table Tennis Australia.
“The purpose of this placement was to gain hands-on experience and to apply my critical thinking skills in a professional environment.”
“The experience provided me with a platform to showcase my abilities to a potential employer and to build valuable networks within the industry. These connections helped me secure my first graduate job.”
Ha has now graduated and is working as Club Manager and Head Coach at Bundaberg Table Tennis.
“My goal is to contribute to the growth and development of young athletes by applying advanced sport management techniques and strategic leadership practices.”
“As we always say in coaching, ‘practice makes perfect’ and ‘trust the process’. I'm eager to learn and take on new challenges as I enter the next phase of my sporting career.”
