Growing up in a small rural Indian village, Rohan Sachdeva is aware of the power of the technology to change lives.

“From studying at institutions like Yale and getting trained to lead change at the Dexterity School of Leadership and Entrepreneurship, the internet connected my small room to the world of opportunities,” he says. “I have firsthand experience of how technology can impact vulnerable communities.”

Rohan is now in his second year of a Bachelor of Cybersecurity as a recipient of the La Trobe’s Vice Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship.

“I chose cybersecurity at La Trobe because it is an innovative program that develops leaders in the areas of digital security and governance. This degree will equip me with the right skills and knowledge, at the right time, to protect the digital sovereignty of netizens.”

Rohan says he is grateful for the breadth and depth of opportunities on offer at La Trobe.

“I am an active member of various programs, clubs and societies. For example, the La Trobe Leaders Program connected me with like-minded scholars and opportunities to volunteer, lead groups and socialise.”

“Last year, I participated in a short overseas program in Japan where I studied nanotechnology and visited the University of Tokyo. Earlier this year, I went on to study Public Policy at Linkoping University in Sweden. Last week, I returned from the Asia Pacific Advanced Network 60 Fellowship in Hong Kong,” he says.

Later this month, Rohan will continue on his leadership journey by taking part in the the Asia Pacific Internet Governance Academy in South Korea as part of a fully funded scholarship.

When he graduates, Rohan is looking forward to putting his leadership into practice in the areas of public policy and governance.

“I look forward to working in a role where I can help shape a better future and rebuild trust in governance through technology.”
