Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) student, Lara Dee Pavlovska, has turned a childhood passion for problem-solving into a promising career in construction.
“From a young age, I've been captivated by the challenge of solving tough problems, whether it was building with Lego, tackling puzzles, or working through math problems in high school.”
She says it was during these formative years that her mum first suggested she explore engineering courses.
“Initially, I hesitated, partly because it seemed like a male-dominated field. However, the more I researched, the more I realised how well the discipline matched my strengths and my passion for finding solutions to challenges. This prompted me to take the leap into civil engineering.”
Now in her fourth year, Lara has started placement and says she is thrilled with the opportunity to learn and contribute to a construction project.
“During my placement, I have had the opportunity to develop a range of practical skills that have greatly enhanced my understanding of the construction industry."
"I learned how to review shop drawings meticulously, inspect the progress of construction, and effectively manage and resolve various issues that arise on site. But what has brought me the greatest satisfaction has been assisting in the resolution of these challenges.”
“Each situation has contributed to my growth and knowledge, making me more adept at navigating the complexities of construction work,” she adds.
Upon graduating, Lara is excited about the opportunities to deepen her expertise and contribute meaningfully to future construction projects.
“I am eager to continue working on-site to further cultivate my skills and gain valuable experience in the field.”
“My time spent on-site has greatly enriched my understanding of engineering, allowing me to grasp the nuances of the profession more thoroughly. This hands-on experience has also enabled me to apply the theoretical knowledge I acquired during my studies to real-world scenarios, which I find immensely fulfilling.”
