Shaping leaders of tomorrow, enriching industries of today

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)’s visit to La Trobe University underscored the organisation’s steadfast commitment to foster excellence and shape future leaders.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) headed to our Melbourne Campus in Bundoora to present its 18-month Graduate Program. This session reaffirmed our strong relationship with DFAT and demonstrated how La Trobe can support and enable industry partners to access an exceptional talent pool comprising over 35,000 students University-wide.

Moses Kamanda, Jess Synaphet and Matt Bennett presented to an eager audience of students, as well as Employability academics, and emphasis was placed on DFAT’s interest in graduates who have a genuine interest in working in international affairs and trade, as well as candidates from a diverse range of experiences and backgrounds.

With placements in various streams such as Corporate and Policy, through the DFAT program graduates gain firsthand experience across a range of government priorities. Corporate placements cover areas like finance, human resources, information technology, and events management, while Policy placements focus on economic and political relations, trade negotiations, climate diplomacy, and more. Throughout the program, participants can benefit from world-class training, an inclusive working environment, and career guidance from a dedicated management team. With over 116 posts worldwide, it provides unique career opportunities to make a difference on the global stage – an exciting prospect for many of the driven La Trobe students in attendance.

The choice to hold this information session on-campus, to proactively engage with collaborative, results-oriented, and high-achieving graduates, is a testament to the calibre of our student network.
