Your gift can stand between a student succeeding and dropping out.
Rising living costs are putting immense pressure on La Trobe students. Abigail, originally from Darwin, faced these challenges herself, nearly delaying her studies to save money. Support from a scholarship changed her path.
“I considered taking a gap year to save. It wasn’t what I wanted, but it felt necessary.”
La Trobe’s Financial Counselors are seeing more students struggling to cover essentials like rent, food, and utilities—often at the cost of their well-being and academic success.
According to one financial counselor, ‘Students grappling with these rising costs are at a much higher risk of dropping out or underperforming academically, as the toll of poor nutrition and lack of sleep severely impacts their overall well-being.’
The La Trobe Student Hardship Support Fund provides $1,000 payments to students experiencing financial or educational disadvantage, including those groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education, including First Nations students and those from low socio-economic or rural backgrounds.
All gifts over $2 are tax-deductible in Australia, with 100% going directly to give students like Abigail the ultimate gift – the power to continue their studies.
