Farewell, Professor Fiona Kelly

This week, we bid farewell to Dean of the La Trobe Law School, Professor Fiona Kelly

“I am incredibly proud of what the Law School has achieved over the past four years. I have confidence that it will continue to grow in stature, while remaining committed to its values of service, justice and academic excellence.”

This week, we bid farewell to Dean of the La Trobe Law School, Professor Fiona Kelly.

Professor Kelly said there have been many highlights during her time as Dean of the School.

“We have achieved so much over the past four-and-a-half years, but a number of successes stand out for the impact they will have for years to come.”

“The launch of the La Trobe Law Clinic in partnership with Whittlesea Community Connections was a proud moment for the School. The Clinic enables our law and criminology students to put their classroom knowledge into practice, while also providing free legal services to those who couldn’t otherwise afford them.”

“In the first six months of the Clinic, 58 vulnerable women fleeing family violence were provided with legal assistance.”

“Over the past four years, we have quadrupled the Law School’s external research income, which has enabled our academics to pursue high impact research in areas such as mental health and disability law, environmental law and alternative reporting options for victims-survivors of sexual violence.”

“And, finally, building a strong partnership between the La Trobe Law Students’ Association and the Law School, so that we can work together to enhance the student experience, is something about which I am particularly proud.”

“I have been so fortunate as Dean to work with such outstanding student leaders who continually give back to the University and their fellow students.”

We wish Professor Kelly all the best as she embarks on her next role as Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta in Canada.
