Engineering and IT Showcase

La Trobe’s School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences recently hosted its annual Engineering and IT Showcase, where students displayed innovative projects delivered in collaboration with staff and industry partners.

Dean, Professor Wenny Rahayu, said the showcase was a great opportunity to celebrate the outstanding work of students.

“Delivered in collaboration with staff and industry partners, the student projects focus on innovations in engineering, computer science, IT and physics,” she says.

“These final-year projects reflect the culmination of the students' learning throughout their degree, made possible through the valuable support of our industry partners.”

The event also included an awards ceremony to recognise the most outstanding projects.  The prize winners included:

  • The CIO Excellence in Digital Innovation Award:  Shyalan Ramesh, Corey King, Quang Nguyen, Rawan Yaqoob and Eleni Lykopandis
  • Dean’s Award for the most outstanding leadership contribution by a female in a project team: Alaa Khasawneh

Engineering

  • Best Robotic Systems Design Project: Jack Colbert, Samuel Coughlin and Robert Fletcher
  • Best Engineering Poster: Jessica Romana
  • Best engineering project: Ishantha Mudiyanselage (Advanced Research stream) and Pranav Narayanan (WIL stream)

Computer Science and Information Technology

  • Top CS&IT Project Academic Award: Prince Goyani
  • Top project for technical implementation: Morrissey Trebley, James Twyford, Max Nicholson, Minh Hoang Dinh and Minh Hung Le
  • Top Cybersecurity Industry Project: Dion Nethercott
  • Top Educational Technology Solution (sponsored by National Training College of Australia): Isabella Ciccone, Yokabed Berhane, Elyas Boon, Laura Calabro and Dominic Harvey

Guests heard from two notable La Trobe alumni, Jamila Gordon, CEO of Lumachain and Dr Phillip Ward, Senior Privacy Engineering Manager at Canva.
