La Trobe Asia Director Bec Strating has been named a Fellow of the Australian Institute of International Affairs for 2024 (FAIIA).
The Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) awards its fellowship to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to and achieved a high level of distinction in Australia’s international relations. This award is a reflection of Bec’s dedication to promoting academic, policy and public engagement in the field of international affairs.
Bec has been the director of La Trobe Asia since 2020 and is a Professor of International Relations at La Trobe University. She is the also the Project Lead for the DFAT-funded “Blue Security” network focused on maritime security issues in the Indo-Pacific.
"I am honoured to be included in such a prestigious list of fellow recipients,” says Professor Strating. "The AIIA plays a critical role in Australia’s international affairs community, informing public debate and promoting discussion about Australia’s place in the world.”
Bec's research focuses primarily on maritime disputes in Asia and Australian foreign and defence policy. She is a frequent contributor to media and is the co-author of Girt by Sea: Reimagining Australia’s Security published by La Trobe University Press in 2024.
