Medals flow for Team La Trobe on Day 5 of Uni Nationals

Our La Trobe athletes fought until the very end on the final day of the 2022 UniSport Nationals competition, and many of them were rewarded with medals for their efforts.

The La Trobe men’s basketball team won themselves a Uni Nationals gold medal, defeating Monash University 69-60 in the final. It was the culmination of a brilliant tournament for them, where they didn’t lose a single game on the way to their medal success.

The women’s basketball team were also victorious, beating Deakin University 48-40 to claim fifth place overall.

In an intense penalty shootout finish, our women’s soccer team took home bronze by defeating the Australian National University to claim their medal.

Our mixed netball team also took home a bronze medal, comfortably defeating the University of Western Australia. The final score was 63-37.

The La Trobe women’s volleyball team defeated the University of Technology Sydney 2-0 to claim a seventh placed finish, while the men’s team lost 0-2 to the University of Queensland and finished tenth overall.

It was also a winning finish for our women’s badminton team, who defeated Western Sydney University 6-3, claiming seventh place for the competition. Unfortunately, the men’s team couldn’t follow suit. They suffered a 1-8 loss to the University of Queensland and finished in eighth place in the rankings.

Finally, Stephanie Hibburt rode brilliantly to claim a silver medal in cycling for Team La Trobe.

La Trobe Sport would like to congratulate all of our athletes for their efforts and achievements at the Uni Nationals competition over in Perth.
