La Trobe campuses spring to life with the Team La Trobe Walk & Run event

La Trobe University’s Melbourne and Bendigo Campuses were awash with a sea of red on Wednesday as hundreds of students and staff took part in the Team La Trobe Walk & Run event.

After running two previous events virtually during lockdown periods in 2020 and 2021, the 2022 edition of the Team La Trobe Walk & Run consisted of two events running simultaneously at both the Melbourne and Bendigo Campuses, as well as a virtual event on the online event hub for staff and students based at other La Trobe campuses.

Facilitated by La Trobe Sport, 367 people registered to take part in the Team La Trobe Walk & Run (either in person or virtually), many of who were decked out in the striking red of the Team La Trobe mechandise provided for free for the participants.

In addition to the respective walk and run activities, participants also enjoyed free drinks and snacks in the Agora as well as various prizes and giveaways across the day.

La Trobe Sport Senior Coordinator of Sport Partnerships and Engagement, Andrew Pettigrove, said the Team La Trobe Walk & Run had fulfilled its aim of reinvigorating campus life by providing students and staff with a reason to get active and connect via an all-inclusive active recreation event.

“We were so pleased to see the Team La Trobe community come together and turn out in such numbers for the Walk & Run event,” Pettigrove said.

“It’s been a number of years since we have been able to facilitate a mass participation event focused on getting people active at our campuses, but to see the Team La Trobe community moving and engaging with their friends and colleagues as part of this event has been great to witness.

“We were blown away by the response and the number of people who signed up to get involved in the event across both campuses, and to see everyone enjoying themselves dressed in their Team La Trobe colours displaying positive spirit and comradery is everything that Team La Trobe is all about.”
