Over December 2019 and January 2020, Centre for Data Analytics and Cognition (CDAC) team consisted of Professor Damminda Alahakoon, Dr. Daswin De Silva, Dr. Su Nguyen, Achini Adikari, Rashmika Nawaratne, Thimal Kempitiya went to Sri Lanka to deliver various Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics lectures and workshops. Our visit was hosted by Data Science, Engineering and Analytics Research Hub of University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
These were some of the key highlights of the trip:
The first event of the trip was kicked off by our Centre Director, Professor Damminda Alahakoon. Damminda was guest speaker at the Annual University of Moratuwa Awards Ceremony 2019 on 27 December 2019.
On 3 January 2020, Our Centre Manager, Donna Burnett, opened a series of lectures in University of Moratuwa by delivering a lecture on ethics and Artificial Intelligence.
On 7 January 2020, we held a public lecture titled “Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics: Transforming Academic Research into Industry Research” in the Lighthouse Auditorium of University of Moratuwa delivered by Professor Damminda Alahakoon, Dr. Daswin De Silva, and our graduate researchers Achini Adikari, Rashmika Nawaratne, Thimal Kempitiya. The event was a sell out.
Next stop in the tour is University of Colombo. Professor Damminda Alahakoon chaired a seminar conducted at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo. The topic of the seminar was Transforming AI and Big Data to derive business insights for managerial decision making.
The tour concluded with a keynote speech by Professor Alahakoon in the University of Moratuwa convocation on 24 January 2020.
