In just one month, La Trobe’s Student Crisis Appeal has achieved a truly remarkable result. Donations from over 800 members of the La Trobe community have surpassed our target of $550,000. This kindness has enabled the University to provide life-changing financial assistance to over 1,200 students to date.
With every gift, our donors shared messages of solidarity to students, urging them on during a profoundly difficult time. Here are just some of the kind wishes they sent:
“These challenging times won’t last long but the new knowledge you gain now will be with you forever. Hope this helps a little to focus on your study “ – Aniruddha
“Keep studying, the world needs your skills.” – Bernadette
“This too shall pass.” – Fiona
“We need your insight and energy to lead the global recovery in years to come.” – Andrew
“Despite the social distancing, this challenge will bring the world closer together. You’ll have a big part to play, but will have the support of La Trobe, wherever home may be! Stay safe and keep well. With love from London!” – Christian
“I hope you’re able to continue your studies and do yourselves proud in these really difficult and trying circumstances.” – Shirley
“Remember, we are all part of a community.” – Marcella
“There are so many people behind you right now – you’ve got this!” – Emily
“I hope this donation supports you to stay engaged in your studies – you’re the most important part of the La Trobe community.” – Teresa
“Your time at La Trobe is so valuable, all the best with it.” – William
“Please keep strong – the La Trobe community is behind you!” – Robyn
“Let's all get through this difficult time together and come out stronger as one!” – Tony
“Education is best gift anyone can have. Go get your dreams.” – Tejas
“Stay strong, stay safe, keep connected.” – Simon
“This is small a token of thanks to La Trobe. I was lucky enough to receive the bursary and hope that this tiny donation goes some way toward supporting more students doing it tough.” – Eamonn
While the Student Crisis Appeal formally closed on 30 April, many alumni and staff are still fundraising to support La Trobe’s students. Any additional amounts raised will continue to be directed to the La Trobe Student Emergency Fund.
Although times may be uncertain, one thing’s for sure: the unity and generosity of the La Trobe community remains strong.
