La Trobe progresses as a finalist at the 2020 Green Gown Awards Australasia

La Trobe University has been shortlisted for the ‘2030 Climate Action’ category for the Green Gown Awards Australasia, which recognise sustainability initiatives undertaken by tertiary education institutions in Australia and New Zealand.

La Trobe’s Net Zero Program and its commitment to be carbon neutral by 2029 has helped secure its position as a finalist.

In the first year of the program, La Trobe has already installed 7,500 rooftop solar panels and 24,000 LED lights; implemented waste reduction initiatives such as on-site composting units; created the La Trobe Energy Analytics Platform (LEAP); and established the $500,000 Net Zero Fund to support research and scholarships.

This is another great achievement for the program after it was named first runner-up for the Green University of the Year at the 2020 Asia-Pacific Triple E Awards.

La Trobe is a finalist in the ‘2030 Climate Action’ category alongside Monash University, RMIT University, The University of Newcastle and UNSW Sydney.
