With applications open for a few more days, closing on 31st August, La Trobe’s Aspire program recognises leadership and community contribution or volunteering, by offering students early conditional offers. An early offer gives students the peace of mind leading into exams. Students will also receive access to unique support programs, industry connections and networking opportunities when they get to uni
Head of Campus, Dr Deb Neal said that having a program like Aspire will take a significant amount of pressure off year 12 students going into their final exams.
“Year 12 students have had to face an immensely challenging year with the impact of COVID-19 and a transition in and out of remote learning. Students who receive an Aspire offer will have peace of mind going into their exams that they’ve potentially secured their place at La Trobe”.
Joshua Reck from St Joseph’s College is one of the lucky students to have already received an early offer into the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Health Science double degree. Joshua said that he was extremely excited to receive the offer after a tough year.
“It was such a relief and is comforting to know that I have a guaranteed ATAR requirement that is achievable. COVID-19 has no doubt been a time of great uncertainty and unpredictability, for all of us”.
"Working from home has been a challenge to get motivated, however I overcame this by taking myself away from the screen and being more active around the house," Joshua said.
As this is now what they call the new normal for Victorian school students, Joshua said that he is getting used to home-schooling and is maintaining productive work habits to ensure he is working hard.
Joshua said that completing his community service has helped him “develop lifelong qualities and attributes to make me a better person”.
Aspire offers are being sent out even before exams are sat, with all students knowing the outcome of their application in September. Applications for the Aspire program are open now and close on Monday the 31st of August.
