Our guests, mainly from businesses in Melbourne's north and west, and including a State MP and Local Government Councillor, heard about the Data Analytics Hub where students from La Trobe University, RMIT, VU, Melbourne Polytechnic and Kangan Institute deliver data analytics projects for local businesses. The event proved an exciting opportunity for businesses to learn how tertiary students with data analytics skills can help business gain a greater understanding of their operations to address problems and take advantage of opportunities.
A key message of NORTH Link’s presentation was the importance of having a Data strategy to enable the discovery of new and useful information in business, drawing more insightful conclusions, and supporting better decision-making. Data analytics is a journey of many steps to reach an unchartered destination and during the discussion there were great questions raised across the basic elements of getting started through to more sophisticated questions on platforms, possible budgets, resourcing and the difference between IT and data analytics.
Digital transformation is disrupting entire industries, professions and work practices at an unprecedented rate, impacting the way we work, study and live. La Trobe University is meeting digital disruption head-on by increasing our focus on innovation and training in crucial areas such as data analytics, and the digital technologies that underpin the emerging knowledge economy.
