COVID-19 update - March 17, 2020

Related to the continued spread of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus), La Trobe Sport would like to provide its members with an update on the operations of our sport and active recreation programs.

La Trobe Sport, in conjunction with La Trobe University, is continuing to closely monitor the situation around the continued spread of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) and we are taking advice from the relevant authorities, including the Australian Government’s Department of HealthDFAT Smart Traveller and the World Health Organisation.

The health and safety of our students, staff and the general public who engage with our sporting programs and use our sport facilities is our top priority, and the University is working closely with DHHS to enact the recommended public health measures to protect those directly impacted and the wider community.

As a result, La Trobe Sport has set up a working group in order to deal with issues related to COVID-19 as and when they occur.

For any details on the whole of University’s position and general information regarding COVID-19, please refer to the dedicated website and FAQ’s -

Please find an update on each of La Trobe Sport's programs, access to facilities and planned events and general sport and active recreation information below:

La Trobe Sport wishes to confirm that the following sport facilities will remain open until further notice:

> La Trobe Sports Park (inclusive of the La Trobe Sports Stadium, the La Trobe Sports Park Pavilion and surrounding sports fields within the Sports Park precinct)

> La Trobe Indoor Sports Centre (inclusive of the gym, swimming pool, the indoor court, group exercise studio, rock climbing wall and all three specialty studios - the Zen Den, Core Cave and Strong Zone)

All Health & FitnessAquatics and Community Programs operated by La Trobe Sport will continue as normal until further notice.

The exception to this is our Semester 1 Social Sport competition, which has been postponed until further notice due to the relevant sporting bodies advising to cease competition.

We will actively support all of our customers and patrons and their intentions to train or not train to the best of our abilities and will prioritise the health and wellness of all in our overall operations.

The La Trobe Sport Action Plan for members using our facilities during this period is below:

  1. Great hygiene – we have placed antibacterial wipes around the facilities, so please ensure you are utilising these regularly and wash your hands properly with warm soapy water.
  2. Stay Home  –  If you are displaying any symptoms associated with the virus, please stay at home. We promise that delaying your training slightly will not stop you from achieving your fitness goals.
  3. No Towel = No training – ensure you have your gym towels on you at all times and use it! Sweat is great, but not when someone else has to train in it!
  4. Be Considerate – Please adhere to travel restrictions and guidelines. If you have arrived home recently from overseas, please ensure you follow the guidelines as outlined by authorities to ensure you protect yourself and the community.
  5. Expert Advice – please note that we are acting on expert advice and relevant authorities and not that of the media. At this point in time we will remain open and will inform you all if anything changes.
