ARCSHS staff appointed to Victorian Government LGBTIQ Taskforce & Working Group

ARCSHS Deputy Director Adam Bourne and Rainbow Health Victoria Director Marina Carman will be involved in the new taskforce and associated working group.

The new Victorian Whole of Government LGBTIQ Taskforce, announced on Monday, will be co-chaired by Minister for Equality Martin Foley, and will provide expert advice and direction to the government on matters pertaining to LGBTIQ health and wellbeing.

Associate Professor Adam Bourne, the Deputy Director of ARCSHS, has been appointed to the taskforce, and will co-chair its Health and Human Services Working Group. Rainbow Health Victoria Director, Marina Carman, will also be part of this working group.

Established in 2015, the Victorian LGBTIQ Taskforce plays a critical role working with the Labor Government on LGBTIQ issues and supports equality through legislative reform, new policies and programs.

Over the next two years, the Taskforce will provide advice on development of Victoria’s first LGBTIQ Strategy. With input from LGBTIQ communities, the Strategy will set the Victorian Government’s equality agenda by establishing the whole-of-government direction and priority actions for supporting LGBTIQ Victorians.

Working closely with our community partners, ARCSHS looks forward to helping further the health and wellbeing of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer-identifying people by utilising rigorous research to inform policy and practice.
