Another successful BEST Industry-Academia event
On the 29th of November 2019, the BEST centre celebrated one year since it’s launch with an Industry-Academia event. The event consisted of two keynote presentations from industry partners Dr Rick Barber (Trajan) and Dr Malcolm Alderton (DST). Rick spoke about “Collaboration: Bridging the nexus of academia and industry” and Malcolm explained why “Specificity is the only sensor characteristic that matters”. The keynotes were followed by a quickfire multidisciplinary round of talks from post-docs and PhD candidates, who gave presentations on their sensor-related research in the areas of inorganic chemistry, materials science, imaging, microbiology and electroanalytical chemistry.
After presentations, an integral part of the event was the R&D tech demonstrations. This was where everyone got to see and interact with the research they had heard about. In a relaxed environment with food and beverages, industry and academia mingled together to show their research, collaborate and discuss solutions to real-world problems.
Thanks to all our industry and government partners who braved the inner-city traffic to attend, and for all the positive feedback we have received so far. With 47 people in attendance from industry and academia, the night proved to be enlightening and entertaining. Looking forward to the next BEST event in early 2020.
